Dorothy Marie Gibbar, 86, of North Carolina, formerly of Scott City, went to her heavenly home Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, with her daughter by her side.
She was born Feb. 1, 1927, in Eldorado, Ill., daughter of Arthur Thomas and Mary M. Nichols. Dorothy married the love of her life, Elvis J. Gibbar. They were married 56 years before his death in 2001.
Dorothy was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt and friend to many.
Loving survivors include a daughter, Valerie Hilligas (Wesley); three granddaughters, Bethany Parker (Aaron), Melissa Mott (Joseph) and Meagan Hasty (Eddie); a great-grandson, Evan Wesley Hasty; four sisters, Lois Gilewski, Wanda Ablett (Al), Shirley Casteel (Norman) and Viola Nichols; and a brother, Thomas Nichols.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sisters, Fay Steward and Sheila Nichols.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, with a celebration of life service at 11 a.m. at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
