Dorothy R. Foeste, 94, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at Southeast Hospital.

She was born March 10, 1922, in Cape Girardeau to Fritz and Dodie Krueger Meyer. She and Claude "C.M." Foeste were married Aug. 3, 1940, at Benton, Missouri. Claude and Dorothy were married 72 amazing years.

She was of the Catholic faith. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.

She and her husband were owners of Foeste Nursery Inc., which they started in 1945. She was known as the "matriarch" of the Foeste family. She was famous for her "piercing blue eyes," which she often said "got her into trouble." Dorothy had an incredible work ethic and passion for the family business, which was and still is, after 71 years, known all around town for its exceptional work. She made the nursery top priority while unselfishly taking care of everyone else around her. Even at age 94, she still was actively working, including mowing her own lawn and maintaining the entire nursery.

In her little spare time, she was an avid reader, but first and foremost, she was a great wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a woman with amazing grit, strength, integrity and character, sprinkled with just the right amount of cayenne pepper, not to mention a heart of gold.
