INDEPENDENCE, Kan. — Dorothy “Eldine” Engelmann, 91, of Independence passed away Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, at her home.
She was born May 12, 1932, to Eldor and Elda Fiedler in Shawneetown. Eldine married Charles J. Engelmann in 1955, and they resided in Cape Girardeau. They had one son, Larry.
She graduated from Cape Girardeau Business College and then went to work at B&H/Brase Inc. She worked there for more than 40 years, until she retired.
As a young adult, Eldine liked the Bible verse Acts 4:12. Going to Trinity Lutheran Church, she belonged to the Tuesday morning Bible study and was a Junior Ladies Auxiliary member. She also belonged to Prayer Shawl and was a bereavement team leader. Eldine enjoyed being a Sunshine Lady, visiting shut-ins.
Survivors include her son, Larry (Donna) Engelmann of Independence; three siblings, Melva (Glenn) Schaper of Florissant, Laverne (Jerry) Fitzsimmons of Ste. Genevieve and Ervin (Joyce) Fiedler of Tampa, Florida; sister-in-law, Peggy Fiedler of Springfield; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth Swanwick and Elisha (Derin) Dilbeck, both of Jenks, Oklahoma. She also has six great-grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.
Eldine was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Engelmann, and brother, Nelson Fiedler.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Paul Short officiating.
Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
