Dorothy Jean "Dot" Ayers, 69, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at her home after a short battle with cancer.
She was born July 14, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Ervin J. and Bernice P. Blattel Urhahn. She and Melvin "Pete" Ayers were married in May 1964 in Benton, Mo. He died Jan. 5, 1978.
Dot was a graduate of Kelly High School in Benton and a receptionist at Auto Tire & Parts for 26 years. She was also a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church.
Survivors include one son, Brad (Cindy) Ayers of Macon, Mo.; one daughter, Susan (Brian) Eudy of Jackson; one brother, Leonard Urhahn of Benton; two sisters, Carole (Larry) McKinney of Cape Girardeau, Wanda (John) Haney of Rockbridge, Ill. and one granddaughter, Megan Eudy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Capital Campaign, Notre Dame Regional High School Building Fund or a charity of choice.
