Dorothy Mae Abbott, 82, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, June 3, 2011, at the Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Feb. 27, 1929, in Kelso, Mo., daughter of John and Katherine "Katie" Kern Glasser. She and Benjamin H. "Benny" Abbott were married on Sept. 23, 1950, in Kelso. He passed away on July 26, 2007...

Dorothy Mae Abbott, 82, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, June 3, 2011, at the Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Feb. 27, 1929, in Kelso, Mo., daughter of John and Katherine "Katie" Kern Glasser. She and Benjamin H. "Benny" Abbott were married on Sept. 23, 1950, in Kelso. He passed away on July 26, 2007.

Dorothy was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Cape Girardeau. She was a member of the St. Mary's Cathedral, the Council of Catholic Women, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary No. 1111 and VFW Auxiliary 3838, all in Cape Girardeau. She was part of the office staff for many years for Dr. R.A. Ritter Sr., and for Orthopedic Associates of Cape Girardeau.

Dorothy also had a passion for going to garage sales, bargain hunting, St. Louis Cardinals baseball and visiting loved ones and friends while they may have been in the nursing home or unable to leave their own home.

Loving survivors include a son, David Abbott of Jackson; two daughters, Kathy (Gary "Herman") Huckstep of Jackson and Donna (Tom) Jones of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; a brother, Wilfred Glasser of Kelso, two grandchildren Jennifer (Bobby) Hart and Shawn Huckstep; and two great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Casey Hart, all of Jackson.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Abbott; an infant brother, Stephen; a sister, Claudia Glasser; and sister-in-law, Mary Glasser.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayer service will be at 5.

Funeral Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral Church, with Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating. Interment will follow in Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Mary's Cathedral or to the St. Marys Grade School.
