Doris Briggs Wunderlich, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, July 3, 2022, at her home.
She was born June 5, 1937, in Swanville, Maine, to George Willis and Selda Barden Briggs. She and Donald Wunderlich were married April 1, 1960, at Basel, Switzerland. They shared 62 years of marriage.
Doris attended elementary school in Naples, Maine. and then Bridgton Academy High School in Bridgton, Maine. She went to junior college at Westbrook Junior College in Westbrook, Maine, for two years. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees and studied for in the doctorate program at Southern Illinois University.
She worked for the U.S. Government in Washington, D.C.; Frankfurt, Germany, and Bern, Switzerland, after being recruited in 1956. She worked at Steeleville (Illinois) High School and Clinton (Illinois) High School, retiring in 1992.
Survivors include her husband; daughter, Gigi Ingrid Wunderlich (Ron) Haston; and six grandchildren, Anthony Lloyd Wunderlich, Ashley Lynn Wunderlich (Ray) Bucher, Amanda Leigh Wunderlich (Bryson) Grieme, Austin Luke Wunderlich, Alexis Levi Wunderlich (Levi) Hawkins and Allison Laine Wunderlich (Christopher) Mullins. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald Gene Wunderlich Jr.; grandchild, Adam Lee Hugo Wunderlich; and sister, Janet Briggs Roth.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel.
A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. the chapel with the Rev. Weston Wildauer officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
