Doris Mattingly, 81, of Jackson passed away Dec. 4, 2019 at her home.

Doris was born near East Prairie, Missouri, on Oct. 13, 1938, to Arch and Willie Ward Miller.

She attended Dogwood Elementary and graduated from East Prairie High School in 1956.

On Jan. 20, 1961, she married Arthur Mattingly in Charleston, Missouri.

Doris earned bachelor's and master's degrees in elementary education from Southeast Missouri State University, was a classroom teacher in the Bridges Community, Mississippi County, Missouri Campus School, SEMO University, May Greene and Franklin schools in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 2002.

Doris was an avid reader and traveled throughout the United States. She enjoyed a Danube River Cruise. She was a charter member of LaCroix United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau, a member of Chapter BI, P.E.O. since 1978, and a charter member of Alpha Delta Pi, Southeast. She spent many pleasant hours playing hymns on her piano.

She is survived by daughters, Allison Mattingly Wilson of Jackson and Carrie Mattingly (Paul) DiGregorio of Wildwood, Missouri; grandson, David (Becca) Wilson and family, Sam, Asher and Ellie of Columbia, Missouri; brothers, Larry Miller of Bertrand, Missouri and Jim (Vicki) Miller of St. Louis; loving cousin, Eleanor (Don) Moxley of Bertrand, and several Miller cousins.

Also surviving are three nieces, Susan (Brad) Hequembourg, Beth (Richard) Rowling both of Charleston, and Jennifer (Greg) May of Iowa; one nephew, Arlen (Kindle) Miller of Texas; and several great-nieces and -nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by grandparents; parents; sister-in-law, Barbara Peters Miller; mother-in-law, Virginia Drinkwater Thompson; and father-in-law, Finley Thompson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

There will be no funeral service. Private graveside service will be at a later date at the Miller family plot, Dogwood Cemetery, near East Prairie.

The family wishes to thank friends, who became Doris's "wheels" when she could no longer drive, and the caring staff at Southeast Cancer Center and Southeast Hospice. Many cards and prayers were of much comfort to her.
