Doris Ann Langston, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
She was born May 12, 1924, in Cape Girardeau to Silas E. and Acenith Vangilder Campbell.
She and William Lee Benton were married April 30, 1943, at Cape Girardeau. He died in 1970. She later married James R. Langston on Sept. 12, 1970, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death Nov. 10, 1989.
Doris was a 1942 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School.
She worked as an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone, a desk clerk for Holiday Inn and then as a demonstration lady for Schnucks.
She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, was active in United Methodist Women and served as its president and was a circle leader 12 years.
She was an avid Cardinal baseball fan all her life.
Hobbies included crocheting and flower gardening. She was proud to have received yard of the month honors.
Doris' biggest accomplishment was that she raised five kids by herself in the 1950s.
Survivors include four sons, Bruce (Alice) Benton of Jackson, Tim (Joy) Benton of Brentwood, Tennessee, and Tom (Susan) Benton and Alan (Christy) Benton, both of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Cindy (John) Schmoll of Cape Girardeau; a stepson, Raymond (Debbie) Langston of Jefferson City, Missouri; four stepdaughters, Carolyn (John) Taylor of Steelville, Missouri, Ann (Perry) Price of Rolla, Missouri, Sally (Tom) Russo of Jacksonville, Florida, and Pat (Richard) Shelly of New Orleans; two brothers, Edward A. Campbell of Germantown, Tennessee, and Jerry W. Campbell of Cape Girardeau; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and several stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Barry E. Winders officiating.
Memorial contributions may be given to Centenary United Methodist Church.
