Doris Householder Hendricks, 86, of Cape Girardeau, passed away July 29, 2022, at the Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau.
She was born June 2, 1936, in Pascola, Missouri, to the late O.E. and Christine Rettig Householder. She was married to John B. "Jack" Hendricks, Sr. on April 18, 1959, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Madrid, Missouri, and he preceded her in death July 29, 1993. Together they raised two sons in Scott City. In the mid 1970's, Doris had an idea to start a used book store. This came to fruition in 1977 when she and Jack opened a Book Rack franchise. She owned and operated the Book Rack until her retirement in 1997. She enjoyed traveling with her husband until his passing in 1993.
After Jack's passing she enjoyed played Nintendo and watching "Battle Bots" with her grandson, Steven, and shopping for prom dresses and jewelry with her granddaughter, Jackelyn.
Survivors include: sons, John B. Hendricks, Jr., of Cape Girardeau, Larry (Candy) Hendricks of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Emily and Mathies Jensen, of Austin, Texas, Madison Hendricks of Cape Girardeau, Steven and Katie Hendricks of Cape Girardeau, Jackelyn and Jeremy Hanner of Jonesboro Arkansas; great-grandchildren, Nita, Bruce, Max Hendricks and baby Jack, due in December, of Cape Girardeau; and one sister, Marie H. Hunter of New Madrid.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. today at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Madrid with Msgr. Normand Varone officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid.
