TAMMS, Ill. — Doris Jean Fitzgerald Everett, 79, of Tamms passed away at 2:55 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2017, at Daystar Care Center in Cairo, Illinois.
Doris was born Jan. 19, 1938, at home in Unity, Illinois, daughter of the late Clarence A. Fitzgerald and Flora Tibbets “Tibby” Fitzgerald.
Doris was a lifelong Christian, having notable membership with Baptist congregations in Unity; Tullahoma, Tennessee; and Shelbyville, Tennessee. She was selected as homecoming queen, graduating from Tamms High School.
Doris started an accounting career as bookkeeper for Cairo Marine Service Inc., which ended upon retirement at age 63, managing accounts payable for Wisco Envelope in Tullahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Glen Wallace and David Lean Everett; and a niece, Holly Fitzgerald.
Survivors include her sons, Kevin G. Wallace of Wheeling, West Virginia, and Kenneth N. Everett of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Alicia, Jonathan, Justin, Jessica and Samantha; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Ellen Fitzgerald (Hank) Greenley of Tamms; a brother, Clarence Sheridian (Shirley) Fitzgerald of Mounds; and three nephews.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home Tamms.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Buddy Walls officiating. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Dongola, Illinois.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in joint memory of Doris J. Everett and Holly Fitzgerald.
