Doris DeGroot, 85, of Sturdivant, Mo., was born Dec. 21, 1924, the daughter of Mack and Effie McCain Williams, and passed away Dec. 17, 2010, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. Doris was a retired Advance, Mo., schoolteacher. She had taught for more than 30 years. She had been in recent years a volunteer day care teacher. Doris DeGroot, 85, of Sturdivant, Mo., was born Dec. 21, 1924, the daughter of Mack and Effie McCain Williams, and passed away Dec. 17, 2010, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Doris was a retired Advance, Mo., schoolteacher. She had taught for more than 30 years. She had been in recent years a volunteer day care teacher. She was a member of the Brownwood General Baptist Church.

Doris and John Earl DeGroot Sr. were united in marriage June 5, 1948, at Brosley, Mo., and he preceded her in death Feb. 5, 2001.

Survivors include a son, Jeffery DeGroot of Sturdivant; a daughter, Jacqueline (Dennis) Simmers of Zalma; a daughter-in-law, Theresa DeGroot of Ponca, Okla.; two brothers, L.B. Williams of Bernie and Dean Williams of Dexter, Mo.; four sisters, Donis Martin of Dexter, Lodena Hegle of Faulk, Ark., Nelta Pippens of Terre Haute, Ind., Jean Putman of Dexter; four grandchildren, Jeremy DeGroot, Ethan DeGroot, Christina Kinder, Stephanie Simmers; and a great-grandson, Deacon Kinder.

She was preceded in death by two sons, John Earl DeGroot Jr. and Jerry Allen DeGroot; baby twin sons, Leon and Deon; and two brothers.

A visitation will be held on from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Earl Elfrink officiating and Rev. Dean Williams assisting. Burial will follow in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
