PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Doris M. Besand, 85, of Perryville died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at Perry Oaks Manor in Perryville. She was born Dec. 9, 1924, at Brewer, Mo., to Joseph Dennis Weber and Marie Whistler Weber. She married Charles Melvin Besand on Nov. 8, 1947, in Highland, Mo. He preceded her in death...

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Doris M. Besand, 85, of Perryville died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at Perry Oaks Manor in Perryville.

She was born Dec. 9, 1924, at Brewer, Mo., to Joseph Dennis Weber and Marie Whistler Weber. She married Charles Melvin Besand on Nov. 8, 1947, in Highland, Mo. He preceded her in death.

She worked in the obstetrics department at Perry County Memorial Hospital as a nursing assistant. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and a member of the Perry County Historical Society. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary in which she had been a past secretary.

Survivors include two sons, Keith Besand of Perryville and Dennis (Janet White) Besand of Oak Ridge; five daughters, Ann Marie (Marty) Kelly of Tampa, Fla., Kathy (Mike) Lowes of Cuba, Mo., Elaine Winschel of Apple Creek, Mo., Margie (Richard Sr.) Kramer of Perryville and Mary (Darren) Neader of Jackson; three sisters, Velma (Lloyd) Wingerter, Nina Wilson of Perryville and Iva (Bob) Pulis of Pekin, Ill.; 23 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister and a great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville. A VFW Auxiliary service at will be at 6:30 p.m. followed by a parish wake service at 7. Visitation will continue from 6:30 to 10:50 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the rosary recited at 10 a.m.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Milton Ryan officiating.

Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Birthright or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
