Dora Dale McLain, 87, of Jackson passed away peacefully Monday, April 25, 2016, at the Monticello House, where she had resided since 2008.
She was born June 1, 1928, in Cape Girardeau County, the daughter to John H. and Lillie Kraemer Farrow.
Dora attended Indian Creek School near Oriole and was a former member of Iona Baptist Church in Oriole.
Dora married Richard Lee McLain on June 17, 1945, at Cape Girardeau, and he preceded her in death July 12, 2010. They had one son, Steven McLain, born in 1949.
Dora worked at Jackson Hosiery Mill until they moved to Elko, Nevada, where Richard worked for Southern Pacific Railroad and Dora worked for J.C. Penney. After retiring, they returned to Jackson in 1993.
Dora was an immaculate housekeeper and an accomplished seamstress. Also, she did handwork embroidering and loved making quilts and pillows.
Dora is survived by three grandchildren, Edward McLain and Michelle Sanchez of California and Bryan McLain of Ohio; a sister, Delia Terry of Cape Girardeau; and a brother, Lyman Farrow of Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband; parents; two brothers; one sister; and her son, Steven, who passed away on Aug. 4, 2010.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with pastor Stan Hargis officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Southeast Hospice, 10 Doctors Park, Cape Girardeau, MO 63703.
