CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Donald Martin Sheeley of Chaffee was born June 15, 1931, in Chaffee and returned to God's hands at the age of 89 on Monday, July, 6, 2020, at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
On May 15, 1956, he married Leeada Marie Mier in Chaffee. She preceded him in death May 27, 2007.
Don served in the U.S. Navy, was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and worked bingos for many years.
His hobbies included fishing, hunting, casinos and target shooting. He loved to watch every Cardinals baseball game, including a DVR of all games shown when he was away from home.
Don is survived by two daughters, Cindy Gadberry of Chaffee and Sara (Charlie) Hemingway of Chaffee; son, Perry Sheeley of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Michelle Perkins, Megan Sheeley, Ian, Dean and Kirk Hemingway; and two great-grandchildren, Zack and Jake Perkins.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Glen, Frank, Charlie and Paul Sheeley; sister, Thelma Kinder; and grandchild, Sammie Gadberry.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. Rosary service will begin at 5 p.m., with a VFW service following at 6 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the church cemetery.
