Buncombe, Ill. -- Donald Lee "John" Mowery Sr., 70, of Buncombe, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at Union County Hospital in Anna.
He was born March 14, 1935, in Mill Creek, Ill., son of Lee and Edith Ward Mowery.
He was a member of the United Missionary Baptist Church in Lick Creek, Ill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a member of the Teamsters Local 347 in West Frankfort, the Anna Moose Lodge 1346, the Marion Elks Lodge, Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 in Anna and the Union County Farm Bureau. He worked for E.T. Simonds Construction Co. for more than 30 years.
Survivors include a son, Donald Mowery Jr. of Lick Creek; three daughters, Rita Laminack and husband, Allen, of Lick Creek, Rose Haynes and husband, Ray, of Ullin and Rhonda Davis and husband, John, of Lick Creek; five sisters, Bernette Starks of Cahokia, Ill., Lula Mae Manus and husband, Bob, of Anna, Joyce Middleton, Norma Stamp and husband, Donald, all of Joliet, Ill., and Delores Browning and husband, Harlan of Tamms, Ill.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bobby Richardson officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery in Dongola, Ill., with full military honors given by the Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455.
