Donald G. Magwitz, 74, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, April 15, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Perryville, Mo., son of Runold W. and Cleatus M. Abernathy Magwitz. He and Donna J. Kurre were married June 13, 1965, in Cape Girar-deau.
Magwitz was a 1951 graduate of Perryville High School, and attended Southeast Missouri State University a year. He received a bachelor of science in pharmacy from St. Louis College of Pharmacy and Allied Sciences in 1956.
He then started with Medical Arts Pharmacy, spanning a period of 20 years, but was interrupted with his service in the Army from Sept. 5, 1956, to Sept. 7, 1958, during which he served as the pharmacist at Grosse Ile, Mich., Naval Air Station. He later worked at Saint Francis Medical Center Pharmacy 21 years and served as director of pharmacy, the position from which he retired.
Magwitz was a Boy Scout leader with Troop 10 at First Baptist Church. He was a member of Cape County Pharmacy Association, Missouri Pharmacy Association, American Society of Hospital Pharmacists, Saint Francis Medical Center Auxiliary, current board member of Friends of Saint Francis, past member of Chamber of Commerce, past board of directors of St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
He was currently a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel and was active in the Men's Club, Sunday Small Group, and Vacation Bible School.
In 1996 he received the Leadership Award from Saint Francis Medical Center.
His interests included carpentry, golfing, fishing, reading, travel and spending time with children and their activities.
Survivors include his wife of Cape Girardeau; a son, Dirk P. Magwitz of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Gretchen Magwitz Pierce and husband Nathan of Ridgway, Colo.; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy K. Dwyer and family of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to service time Tuesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Barry L. Pfanstiel officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
