Donald Richard Koehler, 84, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2022.

He was born Nov. 7, 1937, in Jackson to Paul J. and Catherine Horrell Koehler.

Donald retired as a lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Army after 40 plus years of dedicated service, having served in the engineers branch.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, St. Vincent de Paul Society, an officer in the Men's Association, an annual fish fryer, and member of the Parish Counsel.

Donald was a master gardener, a member of the St. Louis Evening Herbalists group, Historical Society, NRA, Perryville Bass Club, American Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Red House, and an avid fisherman and hunter. He started the Beaver Bend Swamp Rangers.

He and Carol Golightly were married June 29, 1957.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Koehler of Cape Girardeau; son, Randy (Tracy) Koehler of Fruitland; daughters, Jamie S. Koehler of Cape Girardeau and Christine (Randy) Weber of Pocahontas; brothers, Michael (Jane) Koehler of Paris, Arkansas, and Mark (Jenifer) Koehler of Jackson; grandchildren, Josh, Eric and Seth Koehler and Nathanael Weber; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul David Koehler; and a sister, Cathy Pope.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Father Rick Jones officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery with full military honors.
