Dr. Donald L. Hunt, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 29, 1932, in Farmington, Missouri, to Lee Bradbury and Dorothy Mae Henderlite Hunt.
He and Sylvia "Sue" Arnoldi were married Saturday, April 11, 1953, at Leadwood United Methodist Church in Leadwood, Missouri. She preceded him in death March 23, 2016.
Donald was in the Army from 1952 to 1954.
He taught at Jefferson Elementary from 1960 to 1964 and then at the former Campus School at Southeast Missouri State University. He later became an associate professor in the Education Department at Southeast and retired as a full professor.
Donald was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Education Fraternity, International Reading Association, Missouri State Reading Association and Southeast Missouri Council I.R.A.
Additionally, he belonged to American Legion Post 63.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he served on the church board, was a communion steward for over 32 years and cooked for the men's club.
Survivors include a daughter, Debra (Robert) Blasiney of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Frank (Devon) Blasiney, Katherine Blasiney and Elliott Walshon, all of Cape Girardeau; three great-grandchildren, Adaline Blasiney and Layla and Landyn Walshon; and a twin brother, Ronald C. Hunt of Columbia, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Celeste Douglas; brother, Robert Lee Hunt; and sister, Gloria Schlapbach.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tom Sullenger officiating.
Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau. Graveside military rites will be provided by the Missouri Honors Team.
Memorial contributions may be given to Grace United Methodist Church.
