SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Donald Eugene Cheek, 87, of South Bend passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022, at Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Donald was born in Cape Girardeau on Aug. 5, 1934, to the late Jim and Ruth L. McMillan Cheek. Donald married Connie Baker Cheek on March 16, 2013 in South Bend. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Janice Born Cheek and a stepson Robert Maxwell.
Donald joined the U.S. Navy after high school. Following his years in service, he worked on the railroad where he enjoyed his work but he missed his family. He became a truck driver for 46 years working for Roadway Express and then went to work for the Central School Corporation as a bus driver for 10 years.
His hobbies were his Ford model A, his Mustang and cars in general. He lived for his family.
Donald is survived by his daughters Cynthia (Ralph) Walsh of McHenry, Illinois, Pamela (Greg) Feuling of Madison, Wisconsin; stepdaughter, Susan (David) Conn of Mishawaka, Indiana; stepson, Bill (Desiree) Maxwell of Newburgh, Indiana; grandchildren, Alex (Tracey) Feuling, Jenna (T.J.) Butler, Jenny Maxwell (fiance Skyler), Josh Maxwell, Bradley Conn, Todd Conn, Megan Conn; and great-grandchildren, Chloe Butler, Tyndle Butler, Elliott Feuling; and his brother Jim (Linda) Cheek of Grain Valley, Missouri.
A celebration of life service will be held at noon today at Palmer Funeral Home, Guisinger Chapel, with Pastor Larry Chrisman officiating. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m.to noon today at the funeral home.
