Donald W. Brown, 94, of Jackson passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born April 6, 1928, in Cape Girardeau, son of Willard O. and Hester Whitticre Brown. He and Aletha Grant were married Oct. 26, 1947, in Jackson. She passed away July 3, 2021...

Donald W. Brown, 94, of Jackson passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 6, 1928, in Cape Girardeau, son of Willard O. and Hester Whitticre Brown. He and Aletha Grant were married Oct. 26, 1947, in Jackson. She passed away July 3, 2021.

Donald was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau on Dec. 10, 1948.

In 1951, Donald enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1953.

He and Aletha were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he also served as the Sunday school superintendent, budget committee member, greeter and various other roles.

He worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone as an estimate assigner for more than 41 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and served as a former president on the board, and American Legion Post 158.

Through the years, as a family they enjoyed camping and boating. After retirement, he and Aletha shared many memorable trips together. Donald loved to spend countless hours in his workshop and enjoyed volunteering at the Missouri Veterans Home.

Loving survivors include his children, Donald (Marilyn) Brown and Tina (Bill) Presser; four grandchildren, Heather ("Pee Wee") Bartels, Nathan (Brittany) Brown, Brent (Mandie) Presser and Mark Presser, all of Jackson.

Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren, Joanie Presser, Nolan and Holden Bartels, Joel, Lydia, A.J. and Abigail Brown.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Aletha, and a sister, Virginia Criddle.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jason Shaw officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Saxony Lutheran High School.
