Donald E. Bertier Sr., 84, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Largo, Florida, and Godfrey, Illinois, died Friday, March 3, 2017, at Landmark Hospital of Cape Girardeau due to pulmonary complications.

He was born to Theodore Paul and Eunice Fretz Bertier on Oct. 2, 1932, in Alton, Illinois.

Don graduated from Alton Senior High School in 1950 and served in the Navy on the USS Intrepid. He was a career machinist at Owens-Illinois and served as president of Alton-Wood River Sportsman's Club.

Don was a 32nd-degree Master Mason, following the footsteps of his father, and was pleased to have this legacy embraced by his son. Don was an avid duck hunter and fisherman, and was generous to share of his catch with his many friends in the Four Seasons community in Largo.

His greatest joys were caring for his beloved wife and spending time with his grandchildren.
