SENATH, Mo. -- Don Ozbun, 84, of Senath departed this life Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 9, 1935, to Ollie Clinton and Dora Woods Ozbun Sr. in Bono, Arkansas. He married Shirley Marie Branum on June 28, 1954, in LaCross, Kansas, while Don was on the wheat harvest. She preceded him in death Aug. 13, 2013.
Don and Shirley made their home in Senath. During their marriage, Don worked primarily as a mechanic. He opened a shop in Senath in 1962. In 1977, the lure of the wheat harvest sent him and his family on a trek across the United States, starting in Texas and ending up in Montana at the end of the season. His wife and sons, Donnie and Bart, joined him in this adventure. In 1996, he and his son Donnie opened another automotive business in Kennett, Missouri, where he worked until his retirement in 2010.
In 1980, Don became a member of Senath First Assembly of God Church, which he attended faithfully until his health declined.
Family was of utmost importance to him. His wife, children and grandchildren meant everything to him. He instilled in his children trust, confidence, honesty and a strong work ethic. His grandchildren affectionately called him "Pa."
He leaves his children, Tammy (Greg) Gibson of Senath, Don "Donnie" Ozbun Jr. of Kennett and Bart (Lorili) Ozbun of Cape Girardeau; and grandchildren, Joshua Gibson and Katelyn (Brandon) Crain, Garrett (Grayson) Ozbun, Sydney Ozbun and Blake Ozbun and his fiancee, Ashten Hesselrode. Other survivors are brothers, Ollie Clinton (Virginia) Ozbun Jr., Eugene (Margaret) Ozbun and Richard (Beverly) Ozbun; and cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Along with his wife, Don was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Danny Ray and Cleo Ozbun; and a sister, Barbara Moore.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Senath First Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Chuck Clark and Richard Oliver officiating. Burial will follow in Lulu Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his sons, Donnie and Bart Ozbun; son-in-law, Greg Gibson; and grandchildren, Joshua Gibson, Katelyn Crain, Garrett, Sydney and Blake Ozbun.
