CHARLESTON -- Don B. Daughhetee, 70, of Charleston died Monday, May 29, 1995, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 4, 1924, at Poynor, Ark. the son of Lessie Cline Daughhetee and the late Elbert T. Daughhetee. On Dec. 5, 1946, he married Vena Morgan.

Daughhetee, Charleston's mayor at the time of his death, was active in the Charleston City Council for many years. He also was active in youth recreation and served as president of the park board, president of the Charleston Recreation Association and was a Boy Scout leader for many years. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 4294.

He lived in Mississippi County most of his life, where he owned and operated D & D Electric until his retirement in 1985. He served for four years in the U.S. Army during World War II. He also served with the Missouri National Guard for 36 years, retiring with the rank of command sergeant major.

Survivors include his mother; his wife; two sons, Don Daughhetee Jr. of Sikeston and Tom Daughetee of Charleston; a daughter, Susan Hart of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Junior Daughhetee of Pocahontas, Ark., A.E. Daughhetee of Modesto, Calif., and Ray Daughhetee of Big Springs, Texas; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Richard Combs will officiate, and burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Charleston.
