Dolores Mier, 90, of Jackson, formerly of Oran, Missouri, passed away Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Oct. 4, 1927, in Scott City to the late Virgil “Hoppy” and Barbara Diebold Hopkins.

Dolores was a director of Birthright in Cape Girardeau. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson; a founding member of the St. Ann’s Sodality Immaculate Conception; a member of Bishop Timon Ladies Auxiliary; and was an original member of the Precious Blood Association.

She is survived by three sons, Stephen Mier of Jackson, Chris Mier of Scott City and Tony Mier of Burfordville; a daughter, Susie (Barry) McBride of Oran, Missouri; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Joe Hopkins of Bellevue, Washington; four sisters, Joan Johnson of Cape Girardeau, Betty Buttrey of Cape Girardeau, Mary (Larry) Essner of Cape Girardeau and Barbara (Dave) Sander of Naples, Florida.

Dolores was preceded in death by four children, Madonna, Patrick, Jeffrey and Julie; and a daughter-in-law, Malissa (Chris) Mier.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson. Parish prayer service will be at 7 p.m., followed by St. Ann’s Sodality at 7:15 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with concelebrants John Harth and Monsignor Richard Rowling officiating. Burial will be at Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery in Oran, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Birthright in Cape Girardeau.
