ADVANCE -- Dixie Fortner, 58, of Spring, Texas, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1997, at Northwest Medical Center in Houston, Texas.

She was born July 9, 1938, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Harry and Clara Davault Sample. She and James E. Fortner were married Sept. 3, 1962, in Advance.

Fortner was a graduate of Advance High School, and attended the University of Missouri at Columbia. The Fortners lived in foreign countries many years, until he retired from the Bank of America.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Mark Fortner of Spring; a daughter, Traci Murrie of Calgary, Canada; three brothers, Bruce Sample of Woodville, Ohio, Grant Sample of Tulsa, Okla., Gail Sample of Montgomery, Texas; four sisters, Hope Lorch of Montgomery, Nell Paul of Huntsville, Texas, Sally Parker of Spring, Beverly Jacobs of Indiantown, Fla., and a grandson.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Friends may call at Morgan Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Brice officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park.
