SIKESTON -- Richard Leigh "Dick" Watkins Jr., 69, of Sikeston, died Monday, Nov. 21, 1994, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 6, 1925, in St. Louis, son of Richard L. and Estelle Fischer Watkins Sr. He and Phyllis Tedlie were married July 14, 1949, in St. Louis.
Watkins was a 1948 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia. He helped start KSIM Radio in 1948 and worked there until 1971. He later was an announcer with KMPL Radio in Sikeston, KGMO Radio in Cape Girardeau, and KJAS Radio in Jackson. He retired a few months ago as a national account executive with Zimmer Broadcasting in Cape Girardeau.
He was a charter member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served as a senior warden. He was a member of National American Legion Organization, and life member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Terry Watkins of St. Charles, Ted Watkins of Washington, Mo., Tim Watkins of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a daughter, Allison Hagen of Sikeston; 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel after 5 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Church, with the Rev. Robert Bonnington officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
