Dewey Wayne Adams, 71, of Gravel Hill passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at his home. He was born May 3, 1939, in Gale, Ill., son of Floyd and Alma Prater Adams. He and Glenda Davenport were married July 17, 1981. Dewey was a 1957 graduate of Thebes High School of Thebes, Ill. Dewey Wayne Adams, 71, of Gravel Hill passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at his home.

He was born May 3, 1939, in Gale, Ill., son of Floyd and Alma Prater Adams. He and Glenda Davenport were married July 17, 1981.

Dewey was a 1957 graduate of Thebes High School of Thebes, Ill. Shortly after high school he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served four years before departing with the rank of lance corporal.

He then was a truck driver with the former Triangle Wire of Sikeston, Mo. He later worked at Schneider Trucking of Advance, Mo., until retiring in 1995 due to health issues.

Survivors include his loving wife; a son, Dewey (Russann) Adams of Oklahoma; a daughter, Jennifer Adams of Marble Hill, Mo.; two stepsons, Gary Stovall of Patton, Mo., Steve Hadley of Bloomfield, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Sandra (Jimmy) Pully of McClure, Ill.; two brothers, Clifford Adams of Thebes, Richard Adams of Murphysboro, Ill.; and a sister, Jessie Wareing of Thebes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister and a stepson.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to service time Monday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tom Bridges officiating. Military honors will follow the service at the funeral home. Private interment will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery.
