Dessa Viola James, 80, of Malden died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, at Malden Nursing Center.
She was born Oct. 6, 1916, at Daisy, daughter of Julius and Maudie Freese Crites. She and Jessie James were married March 19, 1932, at Jackson. He died in 1974.
James had been a cook at Southeast Missouri Hospital, McMullen Nursing Home, and Wimpy's Restaurant. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Bill James of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Karen Shrum of Malden, Sharon Estes of Davenport, Iowa; a sister, Bessie Wills of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sons and a brother.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Revs. Joe McCullough and S.S. Borum officiating. Burial will be in Pulliam Cemetery.
