Denver Lewis

Denver B. Lewis, 100, of Jackson passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.

He was born Sept. 27, 1904, on a farm west of Jackson, son of Edward R. and Mora Ford Lewis. He and Wilma Martin were married Sept. 5, 1925. She died Oct. 3, 1992.

In 1925, Denver moved to the Chicago area and worked for Quaker Oats Co. until his retirement in 1967. He then moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., and in 1992 he moved back to Jackson. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Villa Park, Ill., and Medina Shrine in Chicago.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Barbara Lewis of Fort Bragg, Calif., Richard and Cathy Lewis of Louisville, Ky.; a daughter, Jo Ann Mathiesen of Elmhurst, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister and eight brothers.

A graveside memorial service will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Old Salem United Methodist Cemetery near Millersville, with Dr. Grant Gillard officiating.
