Dennis Lee Penrod, 77, 1412 Kingsway, a former Cape Girardeau police officer, died Monday, May 17, 1993, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Nov. 17, 1915, at Neelys Landing, son of Clinton and Hannah Pinkerton Penrod. He and Mary Cornman were married May 6, 1939, at Perryville.
Penrod had worked at SEMO Salvage Yard, was an officer with Cape Girardeau Police Department 15 years, and was a security guard at Famous-Barr 10 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 63, and member of New Bethel Baptist Church at Neelys Landing. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Loranza "Jack" Penrod of Reno, Nev.; six daughters, Mary Sweary of Clinton, Edith Menz of Sikeston, Martha Kinder, Karen Penrod and Roslyn Marberry of Cape Girardeau, and Doris Black of Milwaukee, Wis.; four brothers, Wilber Penrod of Everett, Wash., Clinton and Charles Penrod of Jackson, Richard Penrod of Fulton; two sisters, Zola Robison and Olarea Bollinger of Jackson, and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel, with the Rev. Don Slatton officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park, with military rites by American Legion Post 63.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today.
