CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Dennis "Oscar" Bess, 75, of Chaffee died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 12, 1926, at Chaffee, son of Charles and Mary Ella Emrick Bess. He and Ruth Ann Dudley were married May 8, 1948. She died Feb. 20, 1998.
Bess owned and operated Bess Sinclair Service Station since 1964, in which he managed and operated 45 years. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church and VFW Post 3127.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis and Gary Bess of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Sue Brooks-Pence of Advance, Mo., Gail Meyer and Lura Scowden of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Jeweldine Lindy of St. Louis, Madline Hente of Cape Girardeau, Mary Holland of St. Louis; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Revs. Watis Harrell and Vyron Yount officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery.
