Delores Mantos, daughter of the late John and Pauline Catherine Leissing Schmitt, was born Sept. 7, 1939, in Illmo and departed her life Thursday morning, Dec. 28, 2023, at her home in Scott City at the age of 84 years.
She was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Scott City and Ladies VFW Auxiliary in Scott City. Delores was a graduate of Illmo-Fornfelt High School and 28-year employee of Daimler-Chrysler Corp. She was also a member of Local 1413 United Auto Worker Association and a volunteer at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
On Oct. 5, 1968, she was united in marriage to Angelo Mantos in Schaumburg, Illinois. He preceded her in death Dec. 21, 2009.
Survivors include one stepdaughter, Sandra Markovitch of Monaca, Pennsylvania; brother, Don Peter (Wilma) Schmitt of Melbourne Beach, Florida; sister, Alis Ann Schmitt of Anchorage, Alaska; three grandchildren, Zachary, Brianna and Montana; eight great-grandchildren, Donovan, Zoey, Grayson, Mia, Lillia, Mayvis, Ella and Amelia; nieces and nephews; and two very special neighbors and friends, Laura Poole and Laurie Powers.
Besides her parents and husband, Delores was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Drew and Mary Marshall.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
Funeral Mass will then be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, with the Rev. Tom Wilk officiating. Interment will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to two causes dear to Delores, the Alzheimer's Association and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
