SIKESTON, Mo. -- Delores LaQuita Knuckles, 69, of Sikeston died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at her residence due to injuries sustained in a house fire. SIKESTON, Mo. -- Delores LaQuita Knuckles, 69, of Sikeston died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at her residence due to injuries sustained in a house fire.

She was born Jan. 13, 1933, near Canalou, Mo., daughter of William "Bill" and Vernia Rainwater Landers. She and Lloyd Knuckles were married Aug. 17, 1986, in Piggott, Ark.

She was a member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church in Sikeston and had been a member of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce, serving on the board of directors.

She managed the Super 8 Motel in Sikeston for 16 years, and was chosen as the motel corporation's manager of the year in 1992.

She was a member and past president of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and also a member and past president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Sikeston.

She served on the advisory board of the Foster Grandparent Program, was a board member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and volunteered for the Kenny Rogers Children's Center in Sikeston.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ralph Sexton Jr. and Bill Sexton, both of Sikeston; a daughter, Diane Pearson of Sikeston; a stepson, Kurt Knuckles of Chaffee, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Leah Honsaker of Cleveland; a brother, Gene Landers of Dexter, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
