SEDGEWICKVILLE, Mo. -- Delmar J. Brotherton, 74, of Sedgewickville passed away Thursday, May 27, 2010, at his home.

He was born May 10, 1936, in Old Appleton, son of Floyd and Ella L. Ruesler Brotherton. He and Frances E. McElroy Tranum were married July 8, 1994.

Delmar attended Oak Ridge High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from Feb. 11, 1959, until honorably discharged at the rank of staff sergeant Feb. 10, 1961.

Delmar was a truck driver for the former Litz Poultry Co., worked in construction for the former J.B. Brotherton Construction Co., the former Crites and Syler Construction Co., the former Norman VanDiver Construction Co. and Paramount Construction Co. in Cape Girardeau. He also worked at Jackson Bowling Lanes a number of years.

He was a former member of the Cape Girardeau District Bowling Association Board of Directors. Brotherton attended Sedgewickville United Methodist Church and was an avid hunter.

Loving survivors include his wife of 15 years; a son, Kyle (Linda) Brotherton of Jackson; two stepsons, David Tranum of Scott City, Mark Tranum of St. Louis; a stepdaughter, Sherri (Steve) Pierce of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Laura Smith of Jackson; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and after 11 a.m. Sunday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Anthony Stewart officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with full military honors.
