MOREHOUSE -- Delbert Payne, 63, of Morehouse, died Wednesday at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. He was born April 16, 1928, at McGee, son of Howard and Clara Davis Payne. He and Betty Jean Sheeter were married March 28, 1948, at Morehouse. Payne was a car salesman six years at SEMO Motor Co., and had previously co-owned and operated a barber shop in Sikeston. ...

MOREHOUSE -- Delbert Payne, 63, of Morehouse, died Wednesday at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.

He was born April 16, 1928, at McGee, son of Howard and Clara Davis Payne. He and Betty Jean Sheeter were married March 28, 1948, at Morehouse.

Payne was a car salesman six years at SEMO Motor Co., and had previously co-owned and operated a barber shop in Sikeston. He was a member and trustee of First Baptist Church in Sikeston. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Debra Gainey of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Webster Payne of Normal, Ill., Chester Payne of Morehouse, Ishmael Payne of Puxico; a sister, Dorothy Height of Palmer, Alaska, and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. The Rev. Dolan Rogers will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 tonight.
