David V. Townsend, 80, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 7, 1939, in Hornersville, Missouri, to Gilbert and Virginia Baugh Townsend.
David graduated from Advance (Missouri) High School in 1958. He married Jane Barker. David served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged.
David worked for Burlington Northern Railroad of Chaffee, Missouri, until his retirement in 1998.
Loving survivors include his wife, Jane Townsend; sons, Jon (Tonyua) Townsend, Jerome (Suzanne) Townsend and Jason (Lisa) Townsend; daughter, Julie (Chris) Johnston; grandchildren, Jeremy (Diana) Townsend, Natalie (Josh) Govreau, Quade Townsend, Kendall Townsend, Matthew (Kelsey) Kight, Kristen (Derek) Thieret, Caleb (Cameron) Johnston, Brandon (MacKenzie) Parker, Brent (Tiffany) Parker and Angela Rehm; great-grandchildren, Vincent and Emily Townsend, Gracie and Tatum Govreau, Peyton, Blaine, Mia, Ace and Gib Kight, Piper Salzman, Nash Thieret and Beckham Parker; and two great-grandchildren will only get to know him through fond memories, baby Thieret and baby Johnston.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Virginia Townsend.
A graveside service was held Monday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with the Rev. Ray Placher officiating.
