David Lee Murphy, 51, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center. He was born June 3, 1954, in St. Louis, son of Laymon "Edward" and "Mary" Elizabeth Schneider Murphy. David was a 1972 graduate of Lindbergh High School in St. Louis. In 1973 he moved to Cape Girardeau, where he worked several years in residential construction for Roy Owen Construction. He had worked at General Sign the past 25 years...

David Lee Murphy, 51, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born June 3, 1954, in St. Louis, son of Laymon "Edward" and "Mary" Elizabeth Schneider Murphy.

David was a 1972 graduate of Lindbergh High School in St. Louis. In 1973 he moved to Cape Girardeau, where he worked several years in residential construction for Roy Owen Construction. He had worked at General Sign the past 25 years.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3775 and the IBEW Local 1.

His friends appreciated David's special flair for barbecuing.

Loving survivors include his mother and stepfather, Mary and Bill Driskell of Beckemeyer, Ill.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Sandy Murphy of Stockbridge, Ga., Jim and Jo Murphy of St. Charles, Mo.; two nephews, Ryan Murphy and wife Jennifer of Springfield, Mo., Jason Murphy and fiancee Jacque Hite of St. Charles; a niece, Shannon Saxton and husband Don of Kansas City, Mo.; a great-nephew, Tyson Murphy; his partner in life, Rosemary Acup Maddox Cowan of Cape Girardeau; a stepdaughter, Kristi Sivert and husband Chad of Whitewater; and a stepgrandson, Devin Sivert.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Friends may call Monday from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dean Williams officiating.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice.
