David Price McDowell, 82, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 25, 1940, in Cape Girardeau, son of Chester Lloyd and Virginia "Ruth" Short McDowell. He and Donna Fay Wendel were married at Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson on Nov. 13, 1960.
David attended grade school at Fruitland Elementary and was a 1959 graduate of Jackson High School. He served in the Missouri National Guard from 1959 to 1962. David was recognized as a residential contractor and developed eight subdivisions in the Fruitland area. During his childhood to young adulthood, he attended Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Fruitland, transferring to Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson after he and Donna were united in marriage.
Loving survivors include his wife of 62 years; a sister, Martha Swick Clark of Imperial, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, David Cheek of Mesa, Arizona, and Jerry Wendel of Sedgewickville, Missouri; three nieces; three nephews; several great-nieces and -nephews; and his favorite girl, "Sweetie".
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Nancy Cheek; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Swick and Wayne Clark.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Fruitland, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Inurnment will be at the church cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Cemetery and Southeast Missouri Pets in Cape Girardeau.
