SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- David Anthony Matthews, 51, of Scott City died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He was born Sept. 16, 1948, at Sikeston, Mo., son of Jack and Sallie Newton Matthews. He and Helen R. Edwards were married Oct. 29, 1999, in Piggott, Ark.
Matthews was a graduate of Sikeston High School and Sikeston Nursing School. He was a retired licensed practical nurse. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Anthony Matthews of Phoenix, Ariz., Robert Matthews of Germany; two daughters, Stephanie Watkins of Caruthersville, Mo., Katie Matthews of Kermit, Texas; a stepson, Jason Edwards of Scott City; a stepdaughter, Phaedra Fields of Cape Girardeau; his mother of Sikeston; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, a son, a daughter, and a sister.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
