David Louis Mattes, 46, of Scott City died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at his home. He was born Aug. 28, 1956, in Perryville, Mo., the son of John Dominic and Mary Jane Wichern Mattes. David Louis Mattes, 46, of Scott City died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at his home.

He was born Aug. 28, 1956, in Perryville, Mo., the son of John Dominic and Mary Jane Wichern Mattes.

David was a salesman with Glazer Midwest (formerly Paramount Liquor) for 21 years. He was a member of Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City.

He graduated from Illmo-Scott City High School in 1974. He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 639 in Cape Girardeau. David enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his friends.

Survivors include his mother of Kelso, Mo.; two stepsons, Mark Robinson of Cape Girardeau and Chris Robinson of Chaffee; one brother, Wayne Mattes of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Kathleen Seaman of Florissant, Mo., and Tina Medlin of Kelso; five step-grandchildren; six nieces and nephews; one great-niece; three stepnieces and nephews; and his best friend, Mike Schaefer of Scott City.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Funeral service will be at Eisleben Lutheran Church Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Bob Azinger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Schaefer, Mark Burger, Kenny Enderle, Steve Berry, Glenn Ward, Mark Stewart, Richard Diebold and Terry LeDure.

In David's memory, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Eisleben Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
