David Harry Lah, 68, of O'Fallon, Missouri, formerly of Cape Girardeau, passed away Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, at his home. He was born Oct. 15, 1945, in Danville, Illinois, son of Harry and Renata Meyer Lah. He and Geraldine H. Hauenschild were married in 1972 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. David Harry Lah, 68, of O'Fallon, Missouri, formerly of Cape Girardeau, passed away Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, at his home.

He was born Oct. 15, 1945, in Danville, Illinois, son of Harry and Renata Meyer Lah. He and Geraldine H. Hauenschild were married in 1972 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. She passed away Aug. 22, 1978.

David graduated from Milford Township High School in Milford, Illinois, in 1963.

He was drafted into the United States Army in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1971.

David then graduated from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana, with a bachelor's degree in engineering. He was a civil engineer in the Sikeston, Cape Girardeau and St. Louis areas, retiring from St. Charles County government in 2010.

As a child, David was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith, and was a current member of Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church in St. Peters, Missouri. He was a member of VFW in O'Fallon, and was very involved in his church ministries and civic organizations in his community.

Loving survivors include a daughter, Sarah (Joe) Arthur of Folsom, Louisiana; a granddaughter, Ella Arthur of Folsom; three brothers, Kenneth Lah of Lafayette, Indiana, Roger (Oleana) Lah of Orange, California, and Ronald (Laura) Lah of Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geraldine; and a brother, Arthur Lah.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Hoehner officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Lutheran Hour Ministries.
