PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- David E. "Blackie" Hawthorne, 85, of Perryville died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Perry County Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 17, 1915, in Blair, Ill., son of James C. and Josie Blair Hawthorne. He and Mildred M. Allison were married Dec. 16, 1933. She died July 5, 1998...

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- David E. "Blackie" Hawthorne, 85, of Perryville died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Perry County Nursing Home.

He was born Jan. 17, 1915, in Blair, Ill., son of James C. and Josie Blair Hawthorne. He and Mildred M. Allison were married Dec. 16, 1933. She died July 5, 1998.

Hawthorne had been a superintendent at a shoe factory in Perryville. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Masonic Lodge in Chester, Ill., American Legion and AmVets in Perryville.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Survivors include a son, James Hawthorne of New Orleans, La.; a daughter, Elizabeth Black of Perryville; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Friends may call at Young and Sons Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. today, and Saturday from 6:30-8 a.m. The American Legion wake is at 7 tonight, followed by the Masonic Lodge wake at 7:15.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Chester, with the Rev. Dan Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Chester.
