David Valentine Hajduk, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 14, 1934, in Pittsburgh to Charles G. and Frances Wasecko Hajduk.
David pursued theological studies, a master's in education and a license in professional counseling. He and Carolyn McCrate were married at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Houston on June 21, 1997. After their move to Cape Girardeau in 2006, Carolyn and David become members of Old St. Vincent's Catholic Church. David was active as a cantor, lector and leader of adult a religious education study group. Although David missed his friends in Houston, which was his home for approximately 40 years, he adapted joyfully to his new surroundings and accumulated many more friendships.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn McCrate Hajduk of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Helen C. Bates of Hudson, Florida; and a brother, Charles Hajduk of Toms River, New Jersey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Mary Ann Gagne, Frances Cato and Clare Frances.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with the rosary at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Old St. Vincent's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Allan Saunders, the Rev. Patrick Nwokoye and the Rev. Bobby Manso officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to Old St. Vincent's Catholic Church or the Society of St. Therese the Little Flower.
