CAPE GIRARDEAU -- David Franklin James, 56, of Jefferson City and formerly of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1992, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City.
He was born April 7, 1936, at Holland, the son of Milton Clyde and Lucy Ora Hollingshead James. On Nov. 10, 1956, he married Ellen Joyce Rettig at Columbus, Ga. She survives of the home.
He attended schools at Hayti, and was a member of the Missouri State Investigators Association and the Retired Military Officers Association. He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3838 in Cape Girardeau. He served in the U.S. Army in three enlistments between 1954 and 1963.
He served a total of 20 years when in 1974 he was discharged as a Chief Warrant Officer. He received the following from the armed service: the Bronze Star Medal, the Good Conduct Medal with three loops, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expenditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two BSS, the Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal with 60 Device, the Republic of Vietnam Good Conduct Under Conflict with Palm Medal, and the Overseas Service Bar.
He was employed with the Missouri Division of Employment Security, before he became the supervisor of the Weights and Measures Division of the Missouri Department of Agriculture.
Survivors include three sons, David Alan James and Eddy James, both of Cape Girardeau, and Mark James of Wichita, Kan.; two brothers, Milton Clyde James of Hayti and John Larry James of Bonaire, Ga.; three sisters, Ruby Maxine Hood of Eolia, Anna Carlene Rettig of Norman, Okla. and Barbara Jean Robinson of Red Bay, Ala; and nine grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau, where funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Graveside military rites will be conducted at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Buescher Memorial Home in Jefferson City is handling arrangements there.
