David William Dodd, 74, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born March 30, 1945, in St. Louis to Leonard D. and Mary L. Brasure Dodd.
He grew up in Crystal City, Missouri, and graduated from Crystal City High School. David was an Eagle Scout, as were his brother, Jim, and father, Leonard.
He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He graduated with honors from both universities with a 4.0 grade average.
He worked as an actuary and a consultant in the insurance and human resources industry, living in New York City, San Francisco and Plainsboro, New Jersey, retiring from William Mercer Co. in 2006.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Susan K. Dodd of Cape Girardeau; two nephews, Timothy M. (Loretta) Dodd and John D. (Melinda) Dodd, both of Cape Girardeau; great-nephew, Thomas M. (Carolyn) Dodd; three great-nieces, Mary C. Dodd, Tatum E. Dodd and Riley E. Dodd; and great-great-nephew, Trevor M. Dodd.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James D. Dodd.
Memorial visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Private graveside service will be Saturday at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Mark Martin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Terry W. Kitchen Male Athlete Scholarship Fund or Salvation Army.
