David Joe Lewis Davis Jr., 48, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at his home.
He was born Nov. 20, 1952, in Boyle, Miss., son of David Cowan and Ruby Brown Davis. He and Linda Harris were married in September 2000 in East Cape Girardeau, Ill.
Davis was a 1972 graduate of Central High School. He was a published poet and Little League pitcher for Kelly Baseball Team.
Survivors include his wife; a son, David C.J. Johnson-Davis; a stepson, William Justin Johnson; two stepdaughters, Roshanda and Kristina Johnson, all of Cape Girardeau; his mother of St. Louis; eight brothers, Floyd, Jessie, Ricky, Christopher, Dave and Harvey Cowan, all of St. Louis, Bertron Cowan of Cleveland, Miss., and Jessie Austin of Benton Harbor, Mich.
Also surviving are nine sisters, Frances Davis of Indiantown, Fla., Rutha Davis of Cape Girardeau, Georgia Martin of Benton Harbor, Betty Johnson, Marion Frince, Minnie Davis-Lowe, Barbara Buckles and Peggy Kyles, all of St. Louis, Theresa Lofton of Cleveland; and a grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home after 11 a.m. today.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. The Rev. Edmund Lowe will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
