David Wayne Barks, 67, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Oct. 26, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, son of Raymond and Wilma Heider Barks. He and Shirley Jean Moore were married April 6, 1968. She died Oct. 9, 2006.
Barks was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, served as a former member of the Men's Club and former Trinity Lutheran School PTL president. He was a member of VFW Post 3838.
He was employed 22 years in the aerospace industry, having worked at Boeing, Rockwell International and Fleet Aerospace, retiring in 1991 as vice president of operations.
Barks was in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1968 and served in Vietnam.
Survivors include two sons, Todd Barks of Huntsville, Ala., Tab Barks of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Kim Espinoza of Cape Girardeau, Lara Flores of Olive Branch, Ill., Darla Hughes of Livingston, Tenn.; three sisters, Carolyn Baron of Fruitland, Brenda McLain of St. Peters, Mo., Margaret Austin of Cape Girardeau; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Douglas Breite officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park with graveside military honors to be provided.
