CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Daniel James Gier, 55, of Charleston, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at his home. He was born March 13, 1949, at Cairo, Ill., son of Lawrence and Loretta Carr Gier. He and Pamela Sue Williams were married March 4, 1967. Gier lived in Charleston his entire life. ...

CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Daniel James Gier, 55, of Charleston, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at his home.

He was born March 13, 1949, at Cairo, Ill., son of Lawrence and Loretta Carr Gier. He and Pamela Sue Williams were married March 4, 1967.

Gier lived in Charleston his entire life. He earned a bachelor of science degree in industrial arts from Southeast Missouri State University. He taught at the Charleston Middle School until he retired in 2002. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served as a morse code interceptor from 1967 to 1971. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Dee Loflin of Sikeston, Mo.; his mother; a brother, Larry Gier of Fenton, Mo.; a sister, Maureen Johnson of Troutdale, Va.; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Friends may call at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery near Charleston with military graveside rites provided by the Missouri Military Honors Program.
