Daniel G. Clutts, 84, of Kennett died Monday, Dec. 2, 1996, at Carbondale Health Care in Carbondale, Ill.
He was born Dec. 27, 1911, in Thebes, Ill., son of Harry Vernell and Clara Murphy Clutts. He and Virginia Snell were married Jan. 22, 1942, at Caruthersville. She died June 25, 1984. He later married Frances Hopkins in Feb. 9, 1985 at Kennett.
Clutts was a short-term missionary and assisted in the construction of a hospital in Togo, West Africa. He was a prison guard 19 years at Pontiac State Prison, and then retired as a maintenance engineer at the Bank of Pontiac in Pontiac, Ill.
He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church at Kennett. He served in the U.S. Navy prior to and during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of Kennett; two sons, Dr. David Clutts of Carbondale, Terry Clutts of Berlin, Pa.; two brothers, Howard Clutts of Cape Girardeau, Richard Clutts of Thebes; two sisters, Vertis Hemmings of Pittsburgh, Pa., Jenny Taylor of Florida; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Friends may call at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale from 5-8 p.m. today, and at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau from 5-8 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Thebes, with the Rev. Dale Rickman officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes.
