BENTON -- Daniel E. Byrd, 64, Benton Route 1, drowned Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at Wappapello Lake.
He was born Nov. 24, 1933, in St. Louis, son of Ira and Naomi Faulkner Byrd. He and Bonnie Sue Houchins were married June 30, 1993.
Byrd served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and also served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a senior master sergeant. He had worked at Noranda Aluminum in New Madrid.
He was a member of Retired Enlistment Men's Association, Steelworkers Union, and attended Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Morley.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Danny Byrd of Blytheville, Ark., Dennis Byrd of Hillsboro, Dan Latham of Tampa, Fla.; four daughters, Patricia Whybark of Anniston, Debbie Jones of East Prairie, Lori Hooper of Bertrand, Pennie McClain of Benton; two sisters, Irene Daugherty of Canton, Ohio, Mary Stonum of Granite City, Ill.; and nine grandchildren.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Don Russell officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
